Spring is such a refreshing time of year for us Midwesterners who have had to bundle up, shovel ourselves out, and add on the pounds to stay warm for the last 5-6 months (that's like....half of the year). However, this Spring of 2013 has just downright sucked. My midwestern friends know exactly what I'm talking about, and for my southern friends who have been basking in 70-80 degree whether since February, let me clue you in--- here in Ioway we had snow on the ground off and on until mid to late March. Once that melted we'd have a nice 50-60 degree day or two followed by a 20 degree week, or cold 40 degree rain. Most recently (this weekend) we had a few 70-80 degree days (I mean, it IS May now of course), followed by oh, say, 6-10 inches of SNOW in most parts of the state. Quite frankly, Mother Nature needs an attitude adjustment, and she needs it quick!
Anyway-- back to springtime. Its feels amazing to see the green grass, have the sun shining with the puffy white clouds in the sky, hear the birds chirping, and finally put some of your cooler clothes on. This weekend during our little bout of 75-80 degree weather I was able to get my tank tops out and start trying on some of my shorts and capris when I realized just how white my legs were, how sloppy my leg shaving had gotten over the winter time, and how tight these summer clothes had gotten. I somehow manage to do this EVERY YEAR! So here are my excuses:
1. I'm a nurse- which means I wear SCRUB PANTS to work, and when I get home from work, like everyone else, I put on yoga pants or sweatpants and they NEVER tell me I'm fat (I think that's why we are such great amigos ;))!
2. I've given up hitting the tanning bed in the winter time in an attempt to save moolah, and due to the risk of skin cancer and all.... don't get me wrong though, I love the way it feels to hit the tanning bed when it's cold outside and just being tan in general.
3. I'm not a big fan of cold weather and most the time I get goosebumps even in the shower which makes it extremely difficult to shave your legs with out a bunch of cutsies and left over stubble. So, in an added effort to stay warm--sometimes I go a LONG time without even shaving (don't judge me). So what? Who cares? It's winter and I'm wearing pants--what's it to you anyhow? But then when spring comes around and I'm ready to get serious about shaving, it's like I'm a beginner all over again. This Sunday as I was basking in the sun, I looked down to see some abnormally long hairs at the bottom of my ankles....Rut Ro!

4. Back to this whole "pants too tight" thing again--it's soo far from appealing to get all bundled up to take the Oz man for a walk in the freezing cold or drive to the gym which has HORRIBLE parking. It's as simple as that. I. AM. LAZY. Don't go back and read my stupid New Year's resolution post because I'm telling you right now that I am a slug and an utter failure on the getting fit thing *sad face*
Can ANYONE else relate?! Maybe I should start taking these 30 day challenges a little more seriously---seeing as how if I don't I'm going to look like a big tub butt in my engagement pictures this summer....bleck.
Peace and Blessings friends :)
