Here's the skinny:
This weekend we were back in town to celebrate some high school classmates of ours' marriage. It was a beatiful wedding and so much fun! In true Sarah fashion I drank my weight in beer and was feeling less than stellar when I woke up Sunday morning. However, we had plans to go to Derek's parents' for breakfast/brunch so I threw my yoga pants, target T, and scarf on. Brushed my hair and covered up the ugly on my face and hit the road. After brunch and a couple games of pool with his dad and brothers, Derek started freaking out that he had accidentally left his brother's watch that he was wearing at the wedding reception and we needed to go look for it before we headed home. Side note: Still had no idea anything was going on-why? because I forget/lose things at weddings ALL THE TIME! For example there is still a pair of black dress sandals I have yet to collect from a wedding almost two years ago. Heck-- I can't even remember to BRING things to a wedding that I need....like my bridesmaid dress, amirite?!
Anyway- once we got to the event center Derek asked me to come in and help him look for it because "it could be anywhere". So I rolled my eyes and went in with him. The place definitely looked like an abandoned party with the canopy of lights from the ceiling still on and tables filled with empty beer cups. As we walked to the table we had sat at the night before I noticed a bunch of glass votives on the floor with candles lit. First thought: why would Jade (the wedding planner) leave candles lit on the floor?! How stupid! Until I turned around to Derek asking me to sit down--in a chair conveniently located in the middle of all the lit candles, something I had yet to notice. As I did that he sat right down on my lap and recreated the infamous moment by "confessing" his love and proposing we leave for Vegas and get married! Then he got off my lap and on his knee, pulled out a gorgeous ring and said "or we could just do it the normal way"(or something like that ;) weird how the details fade once they get down on a knee huh? This was proceeded by huge smiles and kisses and yada yada.
So that's it! That's how it happpened- there is no plans made yet for this exciting event we like to call a "wedding". However since so many friends and family members are at that stage in life where they are trying to build their little families I would just like to throw Fall 2014 out there. So....plan accordingly ;)
Sorry I wasn't able to tell everyone in person-- the engagement has been shadowed with a phone with a smashed screen (I get glass shards in my fingers from texting--neato), and a crazy 60+ hour work week. Being a grown up is so over rated sometimes. Peace and blessings ;)
